Chipotle and Cranberry Salsa

I'm sure you're already planning your holiday menu! Today I'd like to share with you’ my cranberry and chipotle salsa recipe. This sauce can be used as a side for your traditional turkey, but also goes well with pork. It's very easy to prepare and I'm sure your guests will love the spicy and sweet taste!

Ingredients

  • 2 cups fresh cranberries
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1/4 cup white sugar
  • 6 tablespoons butter
  • 1/3 cup Gold Medal™ flour
  • 3 cups Progresso™ chicken broth
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon chipotle peppers in adobo sauce, minced
  • 1/2 cup white wine

Directions

    In a medium saucepan over medium heat add the cranberries, water and sugar. Cook, constantly stirring, until most of the liquid has evaporated (5-8 minutes). Set aside.

    In another medium saucepan over medium high heat, melt the butter. Add flour and mix well with a whisk until you get a pasty consistency. Cook for 1 minute.

    Gradually start adding the chicken broth and continue beating until you don’t see any lumps.

    Add the brown sugar, chipotle pepper and white wine. Mix. At first boil reduce heat to low, cover and cook for 10 minutes. Add cranberry mixture and stir. Remove from heat.

    Serve this salsita warm to accompany the turkey.

Expert Tips

  • tip 1
    Buy a can of chipotle in adobo and grind it in a food processor. Use a spoonful for this recipe and keep the rest tightly covered in the fridge.
  • tip 2
    If you like your food spicy you can add 1 more tablespoon of chipotle pepper paste.
