Cheerios™ and Peanut Granola Bars

Traveling with children can be a challenge. Whether it is a short car ride or a long flight on an airplane, I always have to be prepared with snacks that can keep them full until the next opportunity for a meal. So I've decided to create my own granola bars with Cheerios™ and top them with some of our favorite ingredients. These sweet bars can be sliced in bite-size pieces or divided in individual pieces for an energizing treat!

Ingredients

  • 2 cups oatmeal
  • 1/2 cup peanuts
  • 2 1/2 cups Cheerios™ cereal
  • 1 cup peanut butter
  • 1/4 cup light brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup honey
  • 1/2 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 tablespoon cinnamon
  • 1/3 cup semisweet chocolate chips

Directions

    In a large bowl combine oatmeal, peanuts, and Cheerios™. Mix well with hands or a wooden spoon.

    In a separate large bowl, place peanut butter, sugar, and honey. Heat in the microwave on high for 1 minute. Stir in vanilla and cinnamon. Place in microwave for another minute and stir until well mixed.

    Pour peanut butter mixture on cereal mixture and stir until combined. On a parchment-paper lined 8 x 8-inch baking pan, pour mixture and press down with a large spoon to form an even layer. Top with chocolate chips and refrigerate for 30 minutes or until set.

    Peel off parchment paper and slice in bars.
