This dessert reminds me of my childhood, when my mother would prepare chocolate, orange, lemon or banana natillas for us. She was always trying to surprise us with a new flavor. Natillas are a creamy dessert that can be enjoyed alone or as a filling for cakes and other desserts.

Ingredients

  • 1/3 cup corn starch
  • 1 liter milk
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 3 egg yolks
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 vanilla pod or 1 tablespoon vanilla

Directions

    Dissolve the corn starch in milk, then mix with egg yolks, sugar and cream. Mix until no lumps appear.

    Using the sharp end of a knife, open the vanilla pod and remove all the seeds. Add the pod to the mixture prepared in the previous step.

    Place on medium heat, stirring with a wooden spoon until the natilla acquires a thick consistency.

    Once you`ve reached the desired consistency, remove from the stove. Take out the vanilla pod and distribute the natilla in several cups or containers. Cover with plastic wrap and chill in the refrigerator for 3 hours.

    You can sprinkle powdered cinnamon or crumbled Marie cookies on the natilla when it’s ready to serve.
