Cinnamon sugar tortilla chips are a simple and delicious dessert that everyone loves. You can serve them as snacks when the children are out of school or as an after-dinner dessert. Every time I make them, they remind me of my childhood. My children love helping me cut the tortillas into different shapes, using cookie cutters, whether we’re making them for a birthday or for holidays, like Halloween, Thanksgiving or Christmas.

Ingredients

  • 12 flour tortillas
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg (optional)
  • 1/8 teaspoon ground cloves (optional)
  • 1 cup vegetable oil (for frying)

Directions

  •
    1
Using 3” cookie cutters, cut shapes out of the flour tortillas.
  •
    2
Mix the sugar with the ground cinnamon, nutmeg and ground cloves.
  •
    3
In a medium-sized pan heat the vegetable oil over medium heat. Fry the tortilla shapes, 4 or 5 at a time, for 1 to 2 minutes or until they’re completely golden brown.
  •
    4
Use a spoon to take the tortilla chips out of the oil and place them on a dish lined with paper towels so the excess oil is absorbed.
  •
    5
Dust the chips with the mix of sugar and cinnamon, making sure they’re completely covered on both sides.
