Mother's Day is right around the corner and it's a great time to get together with family to celebrate the most important women in our lives. Have you started planning yet? We like to get together at home and prepare something delicious instead of eating out. We have a vast repertoire of recipes ranging from simple to incredibly elaborate, so preparing the menu is easy. However, this year we decided to prepare simple recipes in order to spend less time in the kitchen and more time with the family. If you're looking for a dish to prepare for Mother's Day then you came to the right place. Today I present a dish that is easy to prepare and very tasty. Add a side salad and you'll a light midday meal.

Ingredients

  • 1 can (16.3 oz) refrigerated Pillsbury™ Grands!™ Flaky Layers Original Biscuits (8 Count)
  • 2 tablespoons of Gold Medal™ all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon of canola oil
  • 1/2 cup of finely chopped onion
  • 4 green tomatoes, finely chopped
  • 1 pound of ground meat, cooked
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Directions

  •
    1
    Preheat the oven to 350°F.
  •
    2
Line the baking dish with parchment paper. Open the package refrigerated Pillsbury™ Grands!™ Flaky Layers Original Biscuits and place the biscuits on the baking dish. Cover the cookie cutter with flour and cut the center of each biscuit but do not remove the dough; everything must be baked together. Bake according to instructions, about 14-17 minutes.
  •
    3
While baking the biscuits, heat the oil in a saucepan over high-heat on the stove, add the onions (constantly stir), cook for approximately 3 minutes, add the tomatoes and cook for another 5 minutes. Add the cooked meat and mix until all ingredients are well combined.
  •
    4
Lower the temperature on the stove, add salt and pepper to taste, cover and cook for 10 minutes.
  •
    5
When the biscuits are ready, remove from the oven and let cool for 5 minutes. After this time has passed, use a knife to cut out the center of the biscuits that you marked with the cookie cutter. Now they're ready to be filled.
  •
    6
When the meat is ready, remove from the fire and let cool for 15 minutes.
  •
    7
Fill each vol-au-vent and serve with a salad.

Expert Tips

  • tip 1
Cook the picadillo ahead of time so all you have to do it warm it up before serving.
  • tip 2
If you don't have cooked ground beef, you can cook it directly in the oil and then add the onions and tomato. At the end you'll have the same picadillo, but it will take a little more time.
