One of the most famous sandwiches in South America is the Uruguayan chivito. It's impressive and memorable for its variety of ingredients and spectacular sabor. You can't miss it if you're a sandwich fan. Like all sandwiches, there are many versions of the chivito, but you can adapt this recipe as you like.

Ingredients

  • 2 tomatoes
  • Salt, to taste
  • 4 lettuce leaves
  • 4 hamburger buns
  • Mayonnaise, to taste
  • 4 thin cuts of beef, such as top sirloin
  • 1 tablespoon oil
  • 4 eggs
  • 4 thick slices of Mozzarella cheese
  • 4 slices of ham

Directions

  •
    1
First, prepare all the ingredients before cooking the meat.
  •
    2
Slice and season the tomatoes with salt, then wash and dry the lettuce leaves.
  •
    3
Open the buns and toast lightly; dress each half with a little mayonnaise.
  •
    4
Next, season the cuts of meat with a bit of salt on each side.
  •
    5
In a skillet, heat one tablespoon of oil over high heat and cook the meat for one minute on each side. When ready, set aside on a dish and cover to keep warm.
  •
    6
Then fry the four eggs to one side of the skillet and heat the slices of cheese on the other side. Remove from heat when the eggs are cooked and the cheese has softened.
  •
    7
To make your chivito, take one slice of bread and stack a slice of meat, ham, hot cheese, tomato, lettuce and fried egg on top. To finish, cover with the other half of toasted bun and serve immediately.

Expert Tips

  • tip 1
For a variation, add sliced bell peppers, sliced olives or sautéed onions.
  • tip 2
Try making hard-boiled eggs instead of fried ones for your next sandwich.
